DON’T MAKE MISTAKE OF INCREASING THE NUMBER OF MINISTRIES IN ZAMFARA.

Eighteen nominees for the posts of commissioners with sixteen ministries. I think this is the beginning of the confusion because the steps taken look “illogical”.

But the common interpretation one will give is that the Governor has vowed to political pressure and may likely add two additional ministries to accommodate two other commissioners.

But if this is the intention then, there is a danger a head because it will make the Governor to look indecisive both in his policy pronouncements and also in decision making as the Chief Executive Officer of the state.

I think since inception and out of rational reasoning, the Governor felt Zamfara as a small state like they use to call it, does not require more than (16) ministries, and he came up with the idea of rationalizing the number of Zamfara Ministries to (16) then he should be a man of honor to respect his own decision even if it is against the wishes of his political allies.

I keep saying that we should learn to be good students of history because in 2019 Governor Bello Matawalle had set up a rationalization committee headed by an elder statesman Ahmad Zabarma Gusau and the members of that committee recommended the number of ministries that are supposed to be retained in Zamfara looking at the economic realities of the time and instead of the former Governor to stick to the recommendations of the Zabarma committee he raised the number of the ministries instead to over twenty if I am not mistaken.

The former Governor might have vowed to the political pressure as at that time, but we have all seen the consequential effects of that decision and indecision.

Many of the ministries performed below zero level of expectation, while some commissioners became frustrated and heavily indebted without anything to show as an achievement or legacy left behind.

I think for no reason this government of Dauda Lawal should not have accorded priority to political pressure, and instead it should have regulated the pressure to hit the direct needs of the people and also the demands of the time.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai remain a classical example of a leader with one mindset because he has done what is good for Kaduna state in terms of rationalizing the number of the ministries without necessarily allocating a post of commissioner to each of the local governments in Kaduna state, and he has achieved more than the people had anticipated.

The selection of the nominees of Commissioners for Zamfara state by the government of Dauda Lawal is not without political sentiments, especially as demonstrated by some members of the “rescue team”, but that will be a topic for another date.

We are all awaiting to see what Governor Dauda Lawal will do with his two additional nominees for the post of commissioners who are without a ministry based on the current development.
