GSM networks have been disconnected in Sokoto State on Monday, two weeks after the same measure was adopted by Zamfara State.
The state government through its Spokesperson Muhammd Bello said (14) local government areas have been affected by the recent decision.
Some people interviewed said for some hours MTN lines have not been connecting, while others said the disconnection also involved those using Airtel Network.
The decision to disconnect the GSM network in the North West region also involved some part of the neighboring Katsina state.
Sokoto State government officials said, the decision to disconnect the GSM network in some part of the state was aimed at improving on the strategies adopted in fighting armed bandits activities in the state.
They also said the decision to disconnect the GSM network in Sokoto was reached after some suspected gunmen invaded Tangaza local government, killed scores of people and carted away with food items.
