Kaduna state government has released its 2020 annual statistics on the activities of the armed bandits where it claimed that a total of 937 people have been killed by armed bandits in the state in the year 2020.
The statistics shows that out of those innocent 937 people killed by the bandits 468 were from Birnin Gwari, Igabi, Chikun and Giwa local government areas of the state.
According to Kaduna State Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs Mr. Samuel Aruwan who spoke with the BBC said the estimate of 617 people killed by bandits in 2020 were from Kaduna central.
While a total of 286 people who lost their lives as a result of the bandit activities in 2020 were from Kaduna South.
He further said in the year 2020, bandits have kidnapped a total of 1,972 persons in Kaduna State.
Aruwan said, the problem of abduction was more alarming at Kaduna central hence a total of 1,561 out 1,972 were from Kaduna central senatorial district noting that, the 1,461 persons abducted were from Giwa, Birnin Gwari, Chikun and Igabi local government areas of the state.
He said the statistics was gathered based on the information Kaduna State Government received from the army, security agencies and other intelligent sources of the government.
He further said, bandits have rustled a total of 7,195 cattle in the year 2020 at Kaduna.
He insisted that, Kaduna central has the highest figure of 5,614 cattle rustled by bandits out of the total of 7,195, and they comprise Birnin Gwari, Igabi, Giwa and Chikun local government areas of the state.
On the number of those who lost their shelter, Aruwan said there is an agency responsible for humanitarian assistance which is in better position to shed more light on that noting that, issue of loss of lives is of greater concern to the government.
WHAT GOVERNMENT OF KADUNA IS DOING
According to the State Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs Samuel Aruwan said Kaduna State government is committed to searching for the suspected bandits and crush them decisively.
Aruwan said security agencies are doing their best to make sure that armed banditry has been crushed out Kaduna State.
He said it’s high time for the people to understand the security situation at hand since the report released by the state government has provided options that would speak about way forward.
He said the government would continue to do it’s best in securing Kaduna State and also try to go after the miscreant elements.
Aruwan reaffirmed the position of the state government that it will not dialogue with armed bandits because they have continued to cause threat to the peaceful atmosphere enjoyed by the people of Kaduna State.
He said the bandits who came to Kaduna State killed abduct and rape women as well as destroy the economy of the state should not subject of dialogue by the state government.
