During an assessment tour of the newly appointed Chairman of Zamfara State Hospital Management Board Dr. Bashir Maru to one of the General Hospitals in Zamfara an unusual situation was discovered.
The team met someone who is an “environmental specialists” in charge of a male ward attending to patients who had been on admission at that hospital.
In fact, he conducted night duty meaning he slept with the dozens of patients who have been on admission at that male ward inspected by the Chairman and his team.
He also met another General Hospital where there was neither Principal Medical Officer (PMO) nor Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) up to around 10:00am when the visitation team was about to depart the hospital.
These are few out of many problems affecting Zamfara health sectors.
Apart from human resource deficit, one cannot even talk of infrastructural decay because the majority of the General Hospitals in Zamfara do not wear the look of a health facility where health care management is provided.
