Gunmen blocked the highway along Yankara-Wanzamai, the two border towns of Zamfara and Katsina and opened fire on the motorists plying the road.
The Managing Editor of Thunder Blowers Anas Sani Anka who was among the commuters who escaped from the attack, said he and many other motorists were prevented from proceeding with their journey by the residents of Wanzamai who notified them of the ongoing deadly operation by the bandits.
Anka said, it took the intervention of armed military personals from Faskari who engaged the bandits in a fire exchange before the road was cleared.
He added that while the military escorted the stranded vehicles to Tsafe he saw a red color golf, canter Mitsubishi and a truck container on the main road with no single passengers available in the abandoned vehicles.
He also explained that while at Magazu, the people informed them that these was the third attempt the bandits were blocking the road on Wednesday while the military usually goes after them.
He said there were over 100 vehicles trapped along Wanzamai for close to an hour before the military get the road cleared.
The attempted attack came barely a few hours after another set of armed bandits invaded Government Day a secondary school Kaya and abducted dozens of school pupils and their teachers.
