The leadership of Miyetti Allah in Sokoto has accused members of vigilante group of staging a generic war against fulani race.

Umar Abubakar one of the leaders of Miyetti Allah in Sokoto told newsmen that, on Thursday some members of the organized vigilante group armed with guns, cutlasses and hard sticks invaded Manmande market and started killing fulani people randomly.

He cited reference with one driver who conveyed some fulani people from same Manmande market heading to Salame but was stopped by some members of the vigilante group who took law into their hands by subjecting them to instant murder.

He said corpses of thirteen fulani people have been brought to the mortuary of Sokoto Specialist hospital awaiting burial.

When asked whether if the fulani people killed are part of those accused of participating or aiding banditry, he said even if they are accused, the law does not give the members of vigilante the powers to take law into their hands since there are authorities on ground.

Hon Abdullahi Balarabe Salame member representing Gwadabawa and Illela at the federal House of Representatives said the situation of one race attacking another has never been experienced in Sokoto and as such drastic measures have been taken to make sure that such ugly experience did not happen again.

Nasiru Aliyu one of the leaders of Miyetti Allah from Sokoto said in most part of Tangaza and Gwaranyo including Gwadabawa, a fulani man cannot board a commercial car and go for his business activities hence members of vigilante would surely send him to his early grave.

He said even last week Tuesday, some members of the vigilante group went on operation in a village called Giyawa in between Gwaranyo and Wurno and slaughtered (5) fulani people without any probe that established their crime.

Police spokesperson in Sokoto ASP Sanusi Abubakar confirmed to BBC Hausa service that the command has received the report of the incident in Manmande town and that it has taken appropriate steps of arresting the situation.

He said so far, some of those accused of masterminding the murderous incident have been arrested and would be charged to court for prosecution.
