Former Governor of Zamfara state Ahmad Sani Yariman Bakura has expressed hope that reconciliation with the armed bandits terrorizing most part of the North West is the best way to end their criminal activities.

Sen. Yarima who stated this in an interview with the BBC Hausa service on Saturday insisted that, if the government can enter into genuine reconciliation with the bandits just the way previous governments entered into similar arrangements with the people of the Niger Delta, the issue of armed bandits terrorizing the innocent people would be a thing of history.

When asked about his opinion on why the previous reconciliation measures deployed by many states, including Zamfara failed, Yarima insisted that the bandits were betrayed, hence the majority of the pledges made were not fulfilled by those in power as at that time.

He expressed the optimism that if the government can enter into the reconciliation with the bandits and with all sense of sincerity and provide for the bandits all what has been agreed to and constantly keep educating them on the religious repercussions of killing humanity, the problem will surely end.

He recalled that when he was a Governor of Zamfara the most critical security challenges confronting Zamfara was armed robbery and as Governor he set up a joint committee consisting of DSS, Police and rest, provided them with the requisite arms, and allowances and the matter ended within the shortest possible time.

He said if after applying the reconciliation measures if the bandits refuse to surrender then the government can deploy every measure possible to fight them.
