Governor Bello Matawalle has announced the suspension of the district head of Badarawa in Shinkafi emirate council of the state Alh Surajo Namakka over conferment of the traditional title of Durumbu to a military officer who was recently arrested for alleged supply of ammunition to suspected bandits in the state.
In a statement by the Director General Press Affairs to Governor Bello Matawalle Malam Yusuf Idris Gusau said, the Governor sadly received the news of the army officer arrested over alleged supply of amunitions to bandits and was even bestowed with the traditional title of “Durumbu” by the district head of Badarawa in Shinkafi.
Matawalle reiterated that “his administration will not tolerate anything capable of destroying the hard-earned peace and reputation of the state and will ensure that anybody found wanting in any way will be dealt with accordingly” Idris added.
He added that, the suspension of the District Head is indefinite because there is no justification for conferment of the traditional title to the army officer.
He also warned that henceforth, all traditional rulers must seek for approval before conferring a traditional title on people who have contributed to the development of their respective districts or emirates.
Matawalle said the action became pertinent in order to avoid unnecessary embarrassment to the state government and its traditional institutions.
“The military officer was recently arrested in possession of 20 rounds of 62mm of live ammunition at the point of handing over to his usual buyer, one Kabiru Bashiru of Maniya Village of Shinkafi Emirate after he had collected an advanced payment of N100,000 from the recalcitrant bandits in the area” the statement added.
The Governor also commended the security agencies in the state for the arrest of one Dr. Kamarawa with four full sets of military camouflage uniforms and one army identity card.
According to the statement, Kamarawa specializes in the supply of army uniforms and other medicament to bandits before his arrest on his way from Sokoto to deliver the items to his bandits.
He noted that “the involvement of security agents in criminality through the sales of ammunition will certainly help in the sharing of credible intelligence to the bandits.
Matawalle wondered how the nation can defeat criminalities with such bad eggs within the security architecture lamenting that even his peace and dialogue initiative is threatened by the actions of such unpatriotic elements within the security circle.
He assured that all those arrested in connection with banditry will face the full wrath of the law.
The Governor who appreciates the support and cooperation of the heads of security agencies call on the public to continue to cooperate with them especially in the area of intelligent sharing so that together armed banditry and other forms of criminalities can be defeated.
