NOW THAT POWER HAS BEEN TRANSMITTED IN ZAMFARA.

MONDAY EDITORIAL

——————————————————–

Like the popular adage goes, “whatever has a beginning must have an end” Today, the 29th of May 2023 marked the beginning and the end of the four-year tenure of Governor Bello Matawalle as the number one leader of Zamfara State.

It is not something very unusual because for the first day he took over on May 29th 2019, he knew very well that he was sworn-in as Governor of Zamfara for a constitutional tenure of four years and even if he want an extension for the second term tenure he has to succumb to the judgment of the Zamfara people.

God almighty for reasons best known to HIM has decided to terminate the political journey of Matawalle from today

and I am sure in HIS wisdom he wanted to teach both Matawalle and his esteemed political followers and allies some basic political lessons about life and indeed the reasons for political union within the APC.

We will rather not dwell more on what happened during the 2023 election because it has now become a thing of history, but we believe the political crash within the APC is evidently a larger one with a million of teachers for the pupils to get ready and learned the basic and advance antithesis of political betrayal.

It will interest the PDP supporters who are overzealous about their victory to understand that it is one way to secure victory during an election, and it is another way to fulfilling the expectations of the people who accorded you the mandate.

Now Dauda Lawal is the one on the hot seat as from today and we believe they should understand that the focus should be on him alone and no one else not even Matawalle because hammering on Matawalle after power is transmitted is an admission of outright failure and lack of focus.

The PDP supporters should see it as a second step to continue to guide the new Governor in town on how best to deliver on his campaign promises and allow time to judge Governor Matawalle and his political associates.

I think enough has been said about Matawalle and now that he is not on the seat we need to hear different music altogether.

Now, the burden lies with the Governor Dauda Lawal and his political associates to provide a sense of direction for the new Zamfara as they had been envisaging, and we pray for all the best in the interest of Zamfara and its people.

With all sense of humility and respect, we want to advise the Governor to set aside the political ill-feelings against anyone and face the Zamfara project squarely.

This documents the record of transition which was handed over to him, should be his strict guide; hence there are plenty of things he shall learn from it. He will learn from the output of good ideas by his predecessor Bello Matawalle and develop ways to improve from what he has done, and also learned from the mistakes of the past and avoid repeating them.

In as much Dauda Lawal wants to succeed, he should have to do away with the political sycophancy and beam his search light around capable hands that would  help him triumph because if he allows himself to be derailed by the antics of the political class the rest of the days ahead would be history.

I suggest that Dauda Lawal will develop strategies of settling those that suffered with him during campaign without necessarily appointing everyone in the government and that will make him have focus on developing Zamfara State.

Reading from the experience of the immediate past administration, it is only important if we cut the size of governance in Zamfara and give emphasis more in building the capacity of the state civil servants because this is the gigantic gap already created since the inception of the state in 1996.

We wish Zamfara State all the best, and we hope to see more transformation coming from the present government as a way of consolidating the good jobs of Yariman, Bakura, Mahmuda Shinkafi, Abdulaziz Yari and later Bello Matawallen Maradun.

The acting State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Mukhtar Muhammad Lugga has been appointed as the new Chief of Staff to Governor Dauda Lawal.

His appointment and subsequent swearing in came barely a few hours after Dauda Lawal was sworn in as the Governor of Zamfara State by the State Chief Judge Mrs. Kulu Isah Aliyu in Gusau on Monday.

Until his appointment, Lugga was the Acting State Chairman of the ruling PDP, and he took over the chairmanship after the sudden death of the substantive Chairman Dr. Kaura during a function in Gusau early this year.

He was a gubernatorial candidate of Zamfara under the platform of the CPC but stepped down his ambition to support the gubernatorial ambition of then Governor of Zamfara Abdulaziz yari Abubakar.

After the emergence of Yari as the Governor, he made him the commissioner for the environment and later that of education.

He was also appointed as the Chairman of the governing council of the Federal College of Education, Okene Kogi state by the former President and Commander-in-Chief Muhammadu Buhari.
