An arm soldier name withheld had allegedly gun-down a water-melon vendor along Zamfara-Sokoto bypass road Gusau on Sunday.
An eyewitness who spoke to this medium at the venue of the funeral prayers of the decease said the soldier who was allegedly drunken bought a piece of watermelon from the deceased an attempted to deny him money after the transaction.
While the argument between the soldier and deceased lasted, the soldier was alleged to have rushed to a nearby hotel D-travellers guest in picked his gun and asked a colleague to follow him.
He added that when he returned he started shooting sporadically and eventually shot the deceased to death.
Residents of the area who became upset with the action of the solider attempted to lynched him, but he escaped to his hotel room.
The situation caused panic as residents insisted in burning down the hotel where the soldier is hiding before armed police men intervened and whisked him away to an unkown destination.
As at the time of the funeral of the deceased this medium gathered that the soldier is in the custody of the police in anticipation of the commencement of investigation.
When contacted, Police Spokes Person in Zamfara SP Shehu Muhammad confirmed the incident and assured that investigation in to the matter has since commences.
He called on the relations of the deceased to remain calm and law abiding as justice would surely prevail.
