The All progressive Congress has accused the government of Zamfara of substituting the state council of Ulama complex for the office of the First Lady.

According to an official statement by the party spokesperson Mal. Yusuf Idris Gusau he also accused the Governor of awarding a N500M contract for the renovation of the council of Ulama complex.

Idris lamented how the government ordered for the dismantling of the existing library, furniture, and Islamic textbooks put in place by the former Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle.

He further stated that the decision to shut down the state council of ulama by the government of Zamfara is a direct affront to the religion of Islam and also the will of Zamfara people, who are majorly the Muslims.

He also said the decision is a direct step toward sabotaging the rapid progress to the institutionalization of the Shariah Legal system in the state.

“Office of the Council of Ulama is the highest-ranking Islamic body in the state that was established in 1999 to ensure peaceful co-existence among all the people in the state, including non-Muslims, guarantee the sustenance of good upbringing and advise governments at all levels over all issues so that there would be good governance”.

He stated further that the operation of the state council of Ulama was regularized via an established law from the state house of assembly.

Idris expressed surprised in the statement that the Governor felt the office of the first lady, which is occupied by his wife, even though without any legal backing shall be more important than the state council of Ulama noting that “he doubts if the office of the first lady can contribute anything to the societal and moral growth of the state”
The statement further states that “the Governor did not even look at the implication of shutting down the office nor did he consider given the council of Ulama another space as he was blinded by bitterness against his predecessor former Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle who Dauda Lawal Dare thought established the council”.
