As part of the effort to enhance citizen’s participation in Zamfara budget process, Thunder Blowers Multi Media Services together with Advocacy Nigeria a non-governmental organization had organized a one-day technical review meeting on 2021 budget estimate as well as estimation for the year 2022.
Ten representative of various CSO’s and NGO’s were selected for the review meeting and critical issues regarding budgetary projection for the year 2022 as well as inconsistency in the expenditure performance of the 2021 budget were thoroughly discussed.
The meeting also discussed extensively on poor performance in the revenue projection of the state in the year 2021, duplication of projects which were executed in the year2020 fiscal year as well as emergence of capital projects executed without provision in the approved 2021 budget.
In a remark, the Convener of the meeting who doubled as the Managing Editor and Team Lead of Thunder Blowers Multi Media Services Dr. Anas Sani Anka said the objective of the meeting was to among other things try to follow government activities related to revenue and expenditure and make sure that the financial estimate approved by the state lawmakers is followed religiously.
He said soonest the platform will extend a hand of support to MacArthur Foundation through Arewa Research and Development Projects to get support for wider dissemination of the discoveries made to the citizens so that they can be empowered to make positive contribution to budget tracking and monitoring.
On his part Zamfara coordinator of Advocacy Nigeria Rabiu Sambo said the overall interest of the review meeting is to be able to engage budget actors, especially that the budget is undergoing review by the members of the finance and appropriation committee.
He assured that the government would be fully informed of some irregularities identified as a source of concern and follow it up to make sure that certain things have been fixed for the development of the state
