Members of Zamfara State House of Assembly have accused the state Deputy Governor Mahadi Aliyu Gusau of criminal self enrichment and diversion of state funds.

These allegations are contained in a statement issued to journalists on Tuesday by the Chairman of the house committee on Information Shamsu Hassan Basko.

He said part of the reasons why they have to make move for the impeachment of the state Deputy Governor is because he has breach the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria and also conspired to defraud the state.

The statement added, “abuse of office: This includes Constitutional breached of section 190 and 193 (1), (2) (a)(b)(c), of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).

Criminal self-enrichment using public funds: This includes criminal diversion of State fund, Conspiracy to defraud the State and approval of dubious retirement in his office.

They have also accused the Deputy Governor of failure to discharge Constitutional duties, which give rise to insubordination.

Basko also said the impeachment move is in the fulfillment of the provision of section (188) of the 1999 constitution of Nigeria as amended.

He said contrary to the speculations, Speaker Magarya always cherished to respect the constitution of Nigeria and the rule of law, noting that the impeachment move is purely in the best interest of the state.

He clarified that Zamfara state house of assembly performed the duty of legislative oversight only but has nothing to do with issuance of contract.

He tasked journalists to always follow appropriate procedure if accessing vital information in the house of assembly, noting that any statement of amount or figure issued by anybody including political and media aides to the Speaker rather than the committee for information would not be an official statement of the house.
