Suspected bandits laid ambush on some members of the organized vigilante and killed (100) of them in Katsina State North West Nigeria.
So far (71) out of those killed have been buried according the Islamic rites while another (70) dead body are being searched for by the locals.
Over ten members of the vigilante group were also buried at Jargaba village as a result of the encounter.
The incident occurred when the local vigilante members had an encounter with the bandits at “Yargoje forest” in Kankara local government area of Katsina state.
A source added, “the encounter between the bandits and vigilante members lasted for close to (48) hours.
It also occurred when members of the vigilante attempted to rescue some bulls of cattle allegedly rustled by the bandits.
The incident leading to the death of over one hundred members of vigilante involved vigilante members from surrounding Yargoje forest mostly linked to Bakori, Kankara and Malumfashi local government areas of Katsina state.
Another source said, the casualty on the site of the vigilante members occurred; hence the bandits were armed with deadly weapons while members of vigilante groups were only armed with locally made guns.
Residents said they have demanded for the intervention of the security agencies when the encounter was ongoing, but to no avail.
President Muhammad Buhari has since condemned the incident and extend his message of sympathy to the people of the stars.
