CBN ACT DOES NOT EMPOWER CENTRAL BANK TO CHECKMATE CORRUPTION; OSHIOMOLE TELLS EMIEFELE

Published

The former National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, Comr. Adams Oshiomole has challenged the CBN that if the policy of currency redesign is meant to checkmate corruption, there are appropriate agencies that are saddled with the responsibility of checkmating corruption, not CBN.

Oshiomole who spoke through the channels TV show on Sunday insisted that the policy instead of fighting corruption succeeded in causing serious hardship on the common people of Nigeria.

The Comrade said, Nigerians have not voted for Emiefele rather they voted for the President Muhammadu Buhari and APC and that the CBN policy should have not been the baseline of the APC campaign manifestation.

“I have to take exception to the new policy when common people from my constituency confronted me to ask why APC is trying to push them into another forms of hardship”.

Oshiomole who described democratic government as the one that is driven by the wishes of the citizens, explained that same people who transferred their mandate to you as a leader need not beg government for extension on sensitive policy like that of naira redesigning over their legitimate earnings.

He wondered why a government that is elected on the popular mandate of the people would now turn to be implementing policies that would inflict hardship on its citizens.

He alleged that, the CBN Governor is playing a trick that since he knew that the most passionate things Buhari want to fight is corruption he would have brought the idea of changing currency as means of fighting corruption simply to mislead the President.

“The Buhari I knew once he heard about changing currency to fight corruption he will simply approve that policy” Oshiomole added.

He explained that since when President Muhammad Buhari joined politics, the army of people that have been supporting him politically are the masses noting that, things fall apart that they are the ones badly hits by a policy of CBN under Buhari

He argued that it was clear the Nigerian elites had never supported the political mission of President Muhammad Buhari since inception.
