Some suspected bandits armed with deadly weapons blocked Gummi-Bukkuyum highway and opened fire on the commuters plying the road.
A Senior Master at Government Day Secondary School Gummi Malam Tukur Kurma Gummi was shot dead during the operation.
A source who spoke to Thunder Blowers said the late Secondary School teacher was travelling back to Gummi from Gusau when they ran into the bandits camp along the Tashar Taya, Danzaure Axis of Anka-Dakitwakwas-Gummi road.
He said when they stopped their car and the driver refused to stop they opened fire on the vehicle which resulted in his instant death.
“He was together with one Malam Garba Danyadi and Sani pharmacy when the incident happened, and he was sitting on the back seat when the bullet was shot at him by the bandits.
On those other commuters likely to be attacked, the source said their car was behind that of the late school teacher, but he cannot explain the real condition of those vehicles behind them.
“The dead body of the late teacher was domiciled at the mortuary of the General Hospital Gummi while his funeral prayer was slated for 8:30am on Wednesday.
Late Tukur Gummi was a graduate of the Department of History Usman Danfodio University Sokoto and currently a Senior Master in History at Government Day Secondary School Gummi.
It could be recalled that, some suspected bandits took over -Anka-Mayanchi-Gummi highway one Friday for over eight hours before security operatives were able to clear the road for the commutters.
Three days back another group of bandits invaded Masamar Mudi in same Bukkuyum local government area killed four people and injured several others.
Effort to speak to the police spokesperson SP Shehu Muhammad as at the time of filing this report was not successful.
