Governor Bello Matawalle has flagged off the distribution of (3,600) assorted metric tons of fertilizer for this year’s wet season.
The fertilizer is to be sold to the local farmers across the nineteen emirate councils in the state.
The launching took place at the state headquarters of Zamfara Comprehensive Agricultural Revolution programme (ZACAREP) in Gusau.
The Governor declared that, each bag of the fertilizer is to be sold to the farmers at the cost of (N15,000) on cash and carry basis.
“The rationale behind taking this cash and carry action is to avoid any form of default to pay for the product like what happened last year when some farmers defaulted to pay back their money to the state government after getting the fertilizer,” Matawalle said.
He warned the beneficiaries from smuggling the product to the black marketers; hence the government has set up mechanism to checkmating this action.
He assured that his administration will remain committed to given priority to agriculture with a view to improving food security, economic growth and development of the state.
