The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that, election may not hold in one out of the (3,068) poling units in the Zamfara due to lack of having a single registered voter.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner for INEC in Zamfara Prof. Saidu Babura Ahmad stated this in an exclusive interview with the Thunder Blowers in Gusau on Thursday.
Babura said, the Commission is tapping from the opportunity of the media and engagement with all stakeholders and political parties to enlighten the public on the locations and possible arrangements made in respect of the migrated poling units as well as those to be separated.
The purpose according to him was to ensure that overpopulated poling units are decongested with a view to accelerate voting process on the election date.
Regarding the displaced voters, Babura noted that, INEC has developed a template to allow for the provision of the Internally Displaced poling units so that those displaced by an act of banditry can avoid been disfranchised.
“In Zamfara we have a total of (552) migrated poling units across 9147) wards and also (37) splinted poling units and in all these arrangements INEC is making effort to ensure that voters are educated to understand the location of where they are going to vote on the election date”.
He noted that by next week, the Commission will meet with all stakeholders to finalize on the arrangements for the conduct of the election.
