Six members of armed bandits in Zamfara have surrendered their arms and accepted the peace deal of the state government.
The armed bandits surrendered 14 guns and hundreds of live amunitions, and they were received by combined forces of security agencies and state government representatives.
During the reception of the armed bandits, the state government reached out to members of State Ulama Consultative Council who preached to the bandits on the significance of peace.
Malam Abubakar Fari administered a spiritual oath to the bandits using the holy Qur’an where they pledged not to killed anybody or indict themselves with heavy drugs.
Governor Bello Matawalle expressed happiness with their decision to surrender to the peace effort of the government.
The Governor used the opportunity to call on those who are still in the forest to have a rethink and accept the peace effort in the overall interest of the state and nation at large.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to executing a stick and carrot approach in ending the armed bandit activities.
The event was attended by all security chiefs and other top government officials including former Deputy Governor of Zamfara State Mukhtar Ahmad Anka as well as Islamic scholars.
