The Special Adviser to Zamfara State Governor on Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Fa’ika Ahmed said, her directorate has overwhelmingly heeded to the warning alert issued by the Nigeria Metrological Agency (NIMET) of possible flooding in some parts of the state.
She made the assertion during a TV show of Thunder Blowers Online News Medium “Tiryan Tiryan” in Gusau on Saturday.
Since the warning was issued, she said her directorate has organized lectures, symposium and radio jingles aimed at sensitising people on the danger of some environmental behaviours that are capable of causing flooding.
She noted that the flood disaster that occurred in Zamfara this year has gone per above the prediction by the NIMET as all the fourteen local government areas of the state were affected.
She said people of Gayari area of Gummi were worst affected by the flood disaster as over 900 houses and 300 farmlands were destroyed.
She said as part of the effort to cushion the effect of the flood disaster in the state, her directorate has distributed 10 trucks of assorted food items, this in addition to other sensitive materials needed by the displaced victims which include rubber Mats, Buckets, Plates among many things.
