The Chairman of Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Zamfara state Dr. mannir Bature Trade has declared that, the level of human resource crises in Zamfara has reached a level that one single medical doctor looks after fifty thousand patients as against the World Health Organization (WHO) standard.
Bature who made the declaration during a stakeholder meeting organized by the management of Zamfara Hospital Services Management Board in Gusau on Wednesday said, for Zamfara to be able to meet with the WHO standard is to allow for recruitment of at least (3,000) medical doctors to meet with the gap.
He said the standard of WHO is that there should be 1,000/1 patient per doctor and 700/1 patient per trained nurse.
He said as of now Zamfara has a total of (350) doctors, 1,300 nurses working at both state and federal health facilities taking care of over five million people.
He lamented that 78% of these human resources are concentrated at the state capital, living just 22% to the thirteen local government councils.
