Some gunmen have invaded several communities in Gusau local government area of Zamfara on Sunday.
The communities invaded include Karazau, Yar Tsakkuwa and Gidan Kaura and both of them are located few kilometers away from Gusau the capital city of Zamfara State.
A source who confided on this medium said the Sunday attack resulted in the Killing of (7) seven persons in Karazau, four (4) in Gidan Kaura and two (2) others in Yar Tsakkuwa.
According to the source, they went to the villages, fired at anyone sighted and forced women and children out of their homes as they moved to Sabon Gida a nearby village where federal university Gusau is hosted for safety.
He said the anger of the action of the gunmen resulted in a serious protest as residents of the villages blocked the popular Gusau-Zaria highway for some hours.
The source added that, it took the intervention of the security agencies to get the highway unblocked for the commuters and travelers to continue with their journey.
He said the fleeing residents informed them at Sabon Gida that when the gunmen were conducting their operation, some residents reached out to the military operatives stationed at Kwatarkwashi as well as the police manning the road block along Kwatarkwashi-Sabon Gida road but for intervention, but they eventually failed to act.
He added that while the protest was ongoing, one of the bandits was sent to ascertain if security operatives are coming to the villages for rescue,, but the bandit was trailed by the local vigilante operatives and was eventually killed.
He further said, while the residents were conducting funeral prayers of the deceased at Karazau on Sunday, the gunmen returned and attempted to launch fresh attack before the local vigilante operatives engaged them in the exchange of fire.
It was also gathered that, as at 10:00am on Monday the gunmen came back to same Karazau village and are currently exchanging fire with the local vigilante.
