Suspected bandits numbering over one hundred invaded Kurar Mota district in Bungudu local government area of Zamfara State and killed thirteen police operatives.
The bandits according to one of the residents of the area laid ambush at the police operatives who were earlier stationed along the invaded community.
“They laid ambush killed thirteen police officers, wounded five others and later continued shooting sporadically, a situation that scared many of the residents to run for their safety” the source added.
The dead bodies of the police officers were evacuated to Yariman Bakura Specialists hospital, while five others are on admission at the same health facility.
According to the source, the bandits also moved to Mayaba and Kango some nearby villages and abducted some number of people and wounded many others who are currently on admission at the health facility in Magami.
Earlier before the invasion of the Kurar Mota, they have made attempt to invade Magami town few kilometers away from Gusau the capital city of Zamfara before the military base stationed at the community repelled the attack.
They have also chased away many local farmers from their farms, even as they emphasize on their warning that no farmer should to his farm for this year’s farming season.
Zamfara Police Spokes Person SP Shehu Muhammad confirmed that the operatives of the Nigerian Police Force ran in to an ambush where 13 of them were killed by the bandits while testifying that the bandits on their part also suffered a heavy casualty.
He said in a statement issued to newsmen on Sunday that, a special anti-banditry operation is currently ongoing with a view to tracking down the bandits.
Shehu said the Police Commissioner Hussaini Rabiu visited the injured victims at the hospital and assured the public that the ugly incident would not deter the command from carrying out its statutory functions of preventing lives and properties.
