EFCC CRIES OVER SIEGE ON ITS LAGOS OFFICE.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission via its verified Facebook page on Tuesday cries over the siege on their Lagos office by the operatives of the Department of the State Security Services (DSS).

The development came barely less than 24hrs after the inauguration of the new Nigerian President Sen. Bola Ahmad Tinubu.
Reasons for the development have not been made public as at the time of filing this report.

The statement by the Commission which was posted on its verified Facebook page reads as follows:

The operatives of the Lagos Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, arrived at their office on No. 15 Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, this morning, May 30, 2023, to be denied entry by agents of the Department of State Services, DSS, who had barricaded the entrance with armored personnel carriers.

This development is strange to the Commission given that we have cohabited with the DSS in that facility for 20 years without incident.

By denying operatives access to their offices, the Commission’s operations at its largest hub with over 500 personnel, hundreds of exhibits, and many suspects in detention have been disrupted.

Cases scheduled for court hearing today have been aborted, while many suspects who had been invited for questioning are left unattended.

Even more alarming is that suspects in detention are left without care, with grave implications for their rights as inmates.

All of these have wilder implications for the nation’s fight against economic and financial crimes.

The siege is inconsistent with the synergy expected of agencies working for the same government and nation, especially when there are ongoing discussions on the matter.

Former Governor of Zamfara state and Senator representing Zamfara West, Hon. Dr. Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar (Shattiman Zamfara) has secured (13) trucks of Maize containing (3900) bags for distribution to his immediate community of Talatar Mafara.

The distribution is to be handled by the (11) man committee headed by Malam Hamza Abubakar.

A total of 68 communities consisting of 21,075 households will benefit with a total of 3900 bags of Maize.

According the chairman, the beneficiaries cut across religious devices as instructed by the donor Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar.

According to the committee Chairman, former Governor Yari has considered the social condition of the people emanating from the removal of fuel subsidy by the current administration.

He assured that, the committee will be just and fair in the discharge of their duties.

He called on people to give them maximum support and cooperation in the discharged of their duty in order to achieve the desire success.

(31) PEOPLE DIES, (274) SUSTAIN INJURIES IN ADAMAWA ROAD CRASHES.

The Federal Road Safety Corp Adamawa state command has revealed that a total of (31) people died as a result of various road crashes within the state.

The statistics also showed that, a total of (274) people also sustained various degree of injuries as a result of the road crashes.

The Adamawa sector command also recorded (126) various road crashes involving (548) passengers within the period under review.

The statistics covered a period of January to July 2023.

The sector commandant of the state, Mr. Yelwa Dio when he interacted with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He attributed the road crashes to over-loading, over speeding and making telephone calls while driving.
