The Federal High Court sitting in Gusau has prohibited the People’s Democratic Party in Zamfara from filling a gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 election.
This followed a judgement on the case filed by Engr. Ibrahim Shehu one of the aspirants that participated in the fresh primary election of the party which produced Dauda Lawal as the winner of the election.
Engr. Ibrahim Shehu approached the Federal High Court in Gusau through his counsel Ibrahim Ali Esq. asking for nullification of the fresh primary election on the ground that the party did not comply with the mandatory provisions of the section 82 of the electoral act 2022 as amended.
But the court in its judgement agreed with the plaintiff that the fresh primary election conducted by the PDP is not in substantial compliance with the provision of section 82 of the electoral act 2022 as amended.
The court therefore prohibited the PDP from participating in the 2023 gubernatorial election.
Counsel to the plaintiff, Barr. Ibrahim expressed happiness with the judgement saying it’s a victory for democracy and rule of law.
