A chieftain of All Progressive Grand Alliance in Zamfara State Sani Abdullahi Wamban Shinkafi has called on Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle to order the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to present a bill for an amendment of the law establishing State Anti Corruption Agency by empowering it to have powers not only to investigate but prosecute corruption cases.
Wamban Shinkafi who made the call during a media briefing in Gusau on Thursday said if the State Anti Corruption Agency is empowered by law to prosecute corruption cases many atrocities related to economic crimes must not be taken to EFCC or ICPC instead they will be investigated and prosecuted at home.
He said within the past one year he has filed 23 petitions to EFCC exposing various scandals involving Yari and his aids but EFCC for its own reasons has refused to act by inviting the culprits and investigate them.
Wambai who threatened that he has already dragged EFCC to an Abuja High court for their failure to exercise their official functions said soonest he is hopeful of securing an order of mandamus which will force EFCC to investigate all corruption cases reported to them from Zamfara State.
He said based on available records, the administration of former Governor Yari has collected and allegedly mismanaged over 1.2 trillion naira between 2011-2019 noting that the collections involved money from Paris Club refund, bailout funds, collection from statutory monthly allocation, budget support facilities, commercial bank loans as well as other international bonds.
