Sokoto state government in collaboration with the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) has commenced the payment of compensation to all those affected by the proposed Mabera Storm Water Management Works on Wednesday.

This was disclosed by the Project Coordinator Alhaji Ibrahim Umar while addressing journalists before the  commencement of the exercise.

He said, already the contracting company COBERG-UDOC COVERG LIMITED awarded to handle the project has mobilized to the site for outright commencement of the Work.

Alhaji Ibrahim Umar explained that, over Five hundred million Naira have been set aside by the State government for the payment of the compensation.

According to him, although, the Work is a joint venture between Sokoto State government and World Bank, the payment of the compensation will be shouldered by the State government alone.

He clarified that, over Five hundred structures have been identified and classified by the Project for payment of the compensation.

The Project Coordinator opined that, this was part of the practical steps taken by the current administration of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal in fulfillment of his campaign promises.

He called on people in the State particularly those affected by the proposed project to always support government programs and policies in order to ensure rapid development of the State.
