Zamfara State People’s Democratic Party has lost a serving Federal lawmaker and two former members of the Federal house of reps that served in the 9th assembly to the opposition All Progressives Congress, the APC in the State.
The serving Federal lawmaker is Engr. Sulaiman Muhammed Gummi member representing Gummi/Bukkuyum while the two former lawmakers are Kabiru Yahaya Classique member that represented Mafara/Anka as well as Ahmad Bakura Muhamad member that represented Bakura Maradun Federal constituency at the 9th assembly.
Though the cause of their defection differs but political analysts believed that they might be dissatisfied with the manners they were handled by the leadership of the party led by Governor Dauda Lawal especially after the victory of the party in the 2023.
Engr Sulaiman Gummi for instance, became aggrieved when he was denied slots of the council Chairman for Gummi and Bukkuyum during the just concluded council polls which he wanted to anoint one his supporters.
Effort to secure his attention to accept the decision of the party on those nominated against his preferred candidates failed as he opted to steps out of the PDP and joined forces with the All Progressives Congress.
He was initially received into the APC by the Speaker of the Federal House of Representative, Tajudeen in Abuja before he was later received by the state party officials led by Tukur Umar Danfulani .
As for Kabiru Yahaya Classique his ordeal with the PDP started when he attempted to contest for the post of State Chairman of the PDP after he lost election bid in 2023.
He personally said he felt betrayed by the PDP when he was denied support from the Governor to actualize his political ambition.
Even though he was convinced not to move out of the party after what transpire, his denial of the party ticket to contest for the post of council chairman for Talatar Mafara triggered his political anger to eventually move out of the party and join forces with the ruling APC.
He officially busted that he hold a spare key to the victory of the party, and he will prove that to the PDP?
Most recently, however, the former Federal lawmaker that defected to the APC was Ahmad Bakura Muhammed the lawmaker that represented Bakura and Maradun at the federal house of representative.
He was received by Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar during his recent visit to the state to mark the new year holiday.
Yari promised the politician that he will be accorded level playing ground for him to actualize his political transition.
He urged the leadership of the party in both the state and Bakura local government to always consult the lawmaker and his supporters on the activities of the party.
What are the implications of the defection of these politicians out of the PDP and what signal is their defection sending to the leadership of their former party, the PDP.
Some analysts believed that it is an indication which shows that those who suffered to ensure the success of the party are feeling betrayed for the failure of the party leadership to ensure that all are compensated for the political investment they have made.
Again there are those with the opinion that allowing exclusive defection of these high-class politicians with their supporters is a sign of political danger ahead for the party the PDP
There are those that hold the views that hence these politicians the likes of Kabiru Classique and Ahmad Bakura have lost their re-election bid in 2023 they are therefore politically irrelevant in their respective constituencies..
But some analysts believed that their defection may be of added advantage to the APC especially with the giant goodwill enjoyed by Sen. Yari at the Zone.
Some of them argued further that even though PDP won three local governments out of the six that made up of the zone during the Governorship polls namely Anka, Bukkuyum and Gummi, that does not rule out the powers of Sen. Yari and his political popularity in the zone.
Now it is left for the PDP to restrategize to ensure that more positive political decisions are instituted to retain its popularity within the zone as the journey toward 2027 election continue to draw nearer.
