Former Zamfara State Governor Sen. Ahmad Sani Yarima has declared that, he has left the seat of power as Zamfara Governor with only 65 million naira in his bank account.
Yarima who stated this during an exclusive interview with Thunder Blowers on Thursday in Abuja said, he has left the government highly fulfilled and with a conviction that he has done well for the people noting that, the only 65 million naira he has as at that time cannot even secure him a house in Abuja instead he has to resort to applying for bank loan.
“When I left the government as Governor of Zamfara I wanted a house in Abuja as newly elected Senator and the house secured for me at Asokoro costs over 200 million naira so out of no option I have to apply for bank loan from the UBA to pay for the house and I later used my allowances at the Senate to settle the debt”.
“We agreed with the UBA that the bank would retain the certificate and other documents related to the house secured as collateral pending when I paid off the loan, and I agreed to their offer. This is how UBA assisted me to secure my first house in Abuja.
He added, “Former Governor Mamuda wanted to pay off the loan for me, but I warned him to desist from using public funds to settle my personal needs and informed him God almighty would provide a way out for me and that is how I rejected the offer from Mamuda”.
Sen. Yarima who affirmed that he has never taken advantage of his position to steal public funds throughout his tenure as Governor said what he does when he was a Zamfara Governor was to use the state funds to empower people and build their confidence through what he called “citizen oriented programmes” .
