An educationist and (EIE) specialist Yusuf ibn Tom has described as wrong decision for Zamfara state government to shut down schools for over four months due to in-security.
The specialist who declared this when he featured on Thunder Blowers live programme from Maidguri Borno State said, no matter the security situation, government must find ways of getting its children educated.
He advised that Zamfara state government should reach out to UNICEF and get the much-needed support to implement the strategy of “Education in Emergency” (EIE) which according to him was successfully implemented in Borno State during the peak of Boko Haram insurgency.
He also advised that government can in alternative embark on what he called “Self Study Initiative” (SSI) so that students can be moved to safer places and get them educated.
He cited reference that during the peak of Bako Haram insurgency Borno State moved around (6000) of its students to other states like Kano that are safe just to make sure that children are not denied access to education.
Furthermore, he described as dangerous living about over (600,000) school aged children out of their learning environment, noting that government of Zamfara need to act speedily and get alternative to educate its children.
