Zamfara State Government has approved the closure of seven boarding and three day secondary schools in the state.
This was announced by the state Commissioner for Education Ibrahim Abdullahi Spirow during a Press Conference on Tuesday in Gusau.
The Commissioner explained that, with what happened in Kankara Katsina State, there is every reason why Zamfara State government should take the bold step of closing schools especially those that borders with Katsina State.
“We have received the approval of governor Bello Matawalle to close all the schools located along our borders with our neighboring states of Katsina and Kaduna following the recent abduction of over 300 secondary students at the Government Secondary School, Kankara in Katsina state.
“As you know, Kankara shares borders with Zamfara state and that attack is also a threat to our students which was why we suggested to the governor of the pressing need to close down these schools for the safety of our students,” he explained.
Ibrahim Abdullahi Spirow also said, those boarding schools affected include GGAS Zurmi, GSSS Birnin Magaji, GSSS Shinkafi, GSS Tsafe, GSS Bukkuyum, GGAS Moriki, GSS Dansadau,
For the day schools, the Commissioner said GDSS Nasarawar Mailayi, GDSS Gusami and GDSS Gurbin Bore were affected by the recent decision.
The Commissioner urged parents to continue to pray for peace in the state noting that “we are confident that with continues prayers, Allah will see us to the end of this problem.”
