The committee for the Apo Legislative Quarters Friday Mosque has announced the indefinite suspension of its Chief Imam Sheikh Muhammad Nurudeen Khalid over what they called “inciting comments” during his Friday sermon.
Sheikh Nurudeen Khalid during his Friday sermon on the 1st of April 2022 criticized the government over its failure to manage the insecurity and incessant killings of innocent Nigerians.
He advised Nigerians on the appropriate steps they are supposed to take if the killing and brutality did not stop. He said, “the condition for every Nigerian should be one, protect us from the killers, and we will come out and vote during election and if you refused to protect us, we will not come out and vote”,
But in a copy of the message of suspension sent to the Islamic cleric, Chairman of the mosque committee Sen, Sa’idu Muhammad Dansadau said the cleric was suspended because his Friday sermon is considered to be inciting.
“I am pleased to inform you that you have been suspended from leading Friday prayers at the Apo Legislative Quarters Jumu’at mosque with effect from 2nd April 2022 and the suspension is indefinite”.
“The decision was taken considering the fact that the Friday sermon you have delivered on the 1st of April 2022 is capable of inciting the public,, especially the potion where you advised the public to demand from the Nigerian politicians’ answers to some key critical questions”.
The committee also said the Friday sermon delivered by Sheikh Nura Khalid has contravened the teaching of Islam.
In the announcement, the committee appointed Malam Muhammad as the cleric who is to conduct Tafsir (Ramadan Islamic Preaching” while Malam Abdullahi is to lead the Friday prayer henceforth.
Part of the content of the sermon delivered by the cleric said, “we have endured driving on bad roads, we have endured poverty and economic hardship, we have endured lies and looting of public funds and now to allow us to survive is becoming an issue”
The Islamic scholar insisted that the best weapon to be use by the citizens of Nigeria is to stay away from voting during election because it is the only message Nigerian politicians will understand.
