Some suspended members of Zamfara State House of assembly are planning to step down from their positions to allow for a fresh election where new breed of legislature can be elected.
The decision is to allow their people to have effective representation on the floor of the state house of assembly.
It could be recalled that in February 2024 eight State lawmakers were suspended for holding an illegal proceeding on the floor of the state assembly.
Those members suspended include Bashir Aliyu Gummi (PDP Gummi 1), Amiru Keta (PDP Tsafe West), Nasiru Abdullahi (PDP Maru West), Bashir Masama (PDP Bukkuyum West), Faruk Dosara (APC Maradun 1), Ibrahim Tudu Tukur (APC Bakura), Samsung Hassan Basko (APC Tlalatar Mafara West) and Bashiru Sarkin Zango (Bungudu West).
One of the suspended members Ibrahim Tudu Tukur informed BBC Hausa service on Sunday that their only crime was when they opened the floor of the state assembly to deliberate on matters related to the ravaging insecurity and call for State and federal governments to institute realistic actions to address the problem.
He stated that, Zamfara State Council of Ulama, state Council of Chiefs, state PDP Chairman as well as Senator Yari had all intervened to ensure that the crisis was resolved.
He stated that all the efforts for the planned reconciliation hits the hard rock.
But Spokesperson of the state lawmakers Hon. Hamisu Alhaji Faru has also informed BBC Hausa service that at their part they are working harder to ensure that the crisis between their colleagues and the state assembly is resolved.
But he said the only stumbling block that hinders the reconciliation is that the suspended lawmakers had refused to agree that what they have done was against the law and instead ask for forgiveness.
“They have gone against the constitution of the country and that it was expected that they apologize to the State house of assembly, especially the Speaker, but they insisted they cannot apologize”.
