A Nigerian international expert on security based in United Kingdom Mr. Bulama Bukarti has warned that the recent decision by Zamfara state government to aid people to obtain gun for self-defense may likely be going to escalate the lingering conflict between Fulani herdsmen and Hausa locals.
Mr. Bukarti who spoke to BBC Hausa service on Monday said Fulani living in the villages are already alleging that the locals usually attacked them in their settlements killed them and destroy their properties.
He said the existing impression these local people have is that every Fulani man is a bandit and as such they dealt with them unjustly.
He further said, if this decision is allowed head-on any Fulani man sighted by the locals within the city he will be killed expressly same thing with the locals in the bush.
He said the decision if allow will empower people to be taking law into their hands and which according to him will be too dangerous to the relative peace enjoyed by the people of the state.
He urged the Federal government of Nigeria to send a message of warning to the Zamfara state government before it’s too late.
