An estimated twenty-two number of people were killed by some suspected bandits at Majifa village in Kankara local government area of Katsina state in weekend.
The attack took place after the bandits attended a reception for one of their celebrated friends named Mai Katifar Mutuwa.
A source from the village said they came into the Majifa town firing gun shots sporadically, a circumstance that put the people of the area into serious panicking.
He said twenty-two (22) people were killed instantly as a result of the attack, while many women and children were abducted by the bandits.
The source also confirmed that several numbers of other residents were badly wounded and are currently hospitalized.
But police spokesman in Katsina SP Gambo Isah confirmed the incident and stated that, long before now, bandits have been facing serious resistance from the members of the vigilante in the area.
On the number of those killed, SP Gambo confirmed that fifteen (15) individuals were killed while five others have been hospitalized.
On the confirmation that twenty people, not fifteen were reported to be killed by the community people, Gambo Isah said police are still compiling casualty figures as at the time of reporting the incident.
He also stated that some members of the bandits were equally killed, just that the police could not be able to put their number since the bandits evacuated the corpses and moved with them on their motorcycles.
