VETRAN JOURNALIST DECRIED POOR CONDITION OF FUNDING FOR GOVERNMENT MEDIA OUTLETS
A veteran journalist and Managing Editor of an online newspaper “The Insider Newspaper” Kefas H. Dogon Yaro has described poor finances to government media outlets, lack of constant training and capacity building among the practitioners as the major impediment to the development of journalism in Nigeria.
Kefas who spoke as a guest speaker at a one-day capacity building to journalists organized by the credential committee of legacy newspaper chapel of Zamfara NUJ in Gusau on Thursday said Journalists need to appreciate the fact that their territory is strong that nobody can play with in Nigeria noting that the profession need to be protected certainly.
He said, switching to digitalization in journalism always make it difficult for those who are old in the profession to adjust, calling on them to rise to the challenges.
He also decried poor condition of take home pay for journalists as additional factor that constitute a bigger constraint to the development of the profession.
He complained on the simple facts that some journalists have not been provided with more than recording gadgets, internet facilities and mobility to make the work of news coverage much easier.
He called on the politicians who are funding most of the state government media outlets to be serious in releasing funds that is meant to make journalism operation easier.
