Residents of Kangon Garakki in Maru local government area of Zamfara state have been traumatized by the activities of armed bandits for sometimes now.
According to a source who pleaded for anonymity, the bandits came to the town around 9:00pm on Tuesday and started shooting sporadically, as a result of which six people were killed.
He stated that four other people sustained various degree of injuries, and they have been hospitalized.
“To the best of our knowledge a reconciliation effort was entered into with the bandits on Tuesday but surprisingly, they came back later in the day and launched a fresh attack on us”.
When asked if the reconciliation has not been perfected to the satisfaction of both parties, the source said, “everything was perfected and people were jubilating, but the recent development has now brought a serious setback”.
He added that, the soldiers stationed in the area had tried their best to fight the bandits back, noting that the effort by the soldiers helped minimized the expected casualties to be recorded during the attack.
