Governor Bello Matawalle has chaired the state security meeting on Monday with Emirs from (19) emirate councils, local government Chairmen and heads of security outfits in attendance.
The Governor said the purpose of the meeting was for all critical stakeholders on security to meet, make a holistic review of the security measures adopted and came up with workable solutions that would help in bringing lasting peace in the state.
“Our meeting today even if it will take us to the next day is to meet as stakeholders and make a realistic review of the security measures we have put in place and develop further strategies that would allow our local farmers to go to their farms without any fear”.
Governor Matawalle further said, though he has set up various committees that are connected to management of security, he ordered for the release of what is required of them to commence work including operational vehicles.
He emphasized that as stakeholders there must be periodic change of security strategies since issue of insecurity is something that has multi-dynamic approach.
Matawalle added that as a government, they are not going to fold their hands and allow people of Zamfara to be carelessly wasted, noting that as government new security measures will be put in place to ensure that normalcy has been restored.
“We have procured operational vehicles and motorcycles for community guards, and we have also procured weapons, and we are going to hand them over to each ward within the state for people to defend themselves”.
“It sound too ridiculing in a situation whereby three young boys armed with deadly weapons would invade a community where there are over three thousand active youths, chase away everybody and nothing would be done” Matawalle added.
“We have to do everything possible to protect our people and to the best we could, we have taken different measures but yet, God almighty has not ended this tragedy, and it is time we seek for forgiveness from God almighty for our bad deeds”?
He added that the security meeting is scheduled for all stakeholders to also air their views on any issue of security concern so that appropriate steps can be taken to get things redressed.
