Governor Bello Matawalle has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to in supporting the Independent National Electoral Commission as it prepares toward going for the bye election for Bakura State House of Assembly Election seat.
The Governor made the pledge when he received in audience the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Zamfara State, Dr Asmau Sani Maikudi on a courtesy visit at his office in Government House, Gusau.
Matawalle said his administration is determined to support the nation’s electoral umpire in the conduct of free fair and credible elections that will be acceptable to all political parties and indeed the people of the state.
“Conducting credible election is key to having good leaders that will bring positive development to the State and country at large” Matawalle added.
He stressed the need for the Commission to explore more areas of discripancies that may requires outright reforms and also make our election conduct in Nigeria more credible especially with this Covid-19 pandemic which requires unique measures in order to ensure the safety of the people.
He informed the commission that, his government will do all that are required to make sure that, INEC has conducted the the forth coming bye election in Bakura in line with the Covid-19 protocols.
In terms of logistics, the Governor noted further that, his administration will provide all the needed logistics including adequate security for the conduct of peaceful and transparent election.
Earlier in her address, the Zamfara State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Asmau Sani Maikudi said she led her other members of staff of the Commission to avail the Governor with the extent of the preparedness of the Commission to conducting the Bakura bye election following the demise of late Tukur Jekada.
Dr Maikudi informed the Governor that the forthcoming Bakura LGA State House of Assembly bye election will be conducted in tandem with the new global health practices which is borne out of the effects of Covid-19 pandemic.
