Arrangement has been concluded by Zamfara State Government to launch N1 billion naira “educational trust fund” aimed at enhancing sponsorship of less privileged persons to advance their education.
This was disclosed by the Special Adviser to Zamfara State Governor on Scholarship Matters Lukman Bisallah Majidadi in Gusau on Sunday.
He said his directorate in conjunction with the Ministry of Justice has already come up with a draft bill which will be forwarded to the State House of Assembly for passage hence the government of Bello Muhammad Matawalle remains passionate about expanding the scope of educational opportunities.
He added that though the programme will be launch within the year 2021, wealthy individuals and philanthropists would be intimated to invest in to the programme.
“As soon as the state Assembly passes the law the Executive Governor of Zamfara State will launch the programme, and we have set a target of N1 billion naira for the commencement of the programme and the target are achievable with the support of all stakeholders” Majidadi added.
On the targeted beneficiaries, Majidadi said the programme will focus the children of the poor and less privileged persons and vows to make the programme a reality.
He said the law will empower the state to charge educational development levy which shall go direct to the savings account of the fund hence there is need for the government to leverage on alternative sources to support the education of the poor.
