A chieftain of All Progressive Congress in Zamfara Aminu Sani Jaji has distanced himself from the purported plan to file litigation against Governor Bello Matawalle over his planned defection to the APC.

Mr Jaji who declared his position on Monday during interaction with journalists in Gusau said, the statement made by Senator Marafa during the flag off of the distribution of food stuffs for Ramadan was not done in consultation with some of them who are stakeholders in the party.

“I am not a party to litigation against Governor Matawalle even if he made up his mind to defect to APC. Everybody should be given level playing ground to participate politically and join any political movement he so wishes”.

“If anybody in APC feels going to court to challenge Bello Matawalle because he is defecting to APC he is free to do that but count Aminu Jaji out of it I will welcome him to the party just as I did for others. When the time comes everybody should allow people to decide his fate.”

“For several times former Governor Abdulazeez Yaris received defectors including “political thugs” snapped pictures with them and even give them money. I did the same and every other politician does the same then what about a seating Governor?” Jaji asked.

He added that what APC should have done is to welcome Matawalle just the way it does to others and when the time for crossing the bridge come the common people should decide the fate of everyone.

“If the constitution allows for freedom of political association who then would stop Matawalle or any other person from defecting to APC? I think those breeding this type of thinking are not good democrats”.

On the fear that the Governor may hijacked the party structure, Jaji said, APC has a mode of conducting party primaries which is direct, indirect or consensus and that anybody who think the Governor can manipulate any of these processes then he is not a serious politician.

“For me asking Matawalle not defect to APC is a clear violation of his constitutional right as provided for by section 40 of the Nigerian constitution 1999 as amended.
