Suspected gunmen have invaded several communities in Bukkuyum local government area of Zamfara State on friday evening and killed 26 people majority among them members of vigilante groups.

A source who does not want to be named said, members of the vigilante were mobilized on Friday to repel a suspected armed bandit attack but were overpowered and as a result 26 of them were killed in the encounter.
The breakdown of the victims shows that, (2) persons killed were from Kairu, (6) from Taka Lafiya (4) Galle including head of the vigilante, (5) from Kyaram, (4) Ruwan Kura and (5) from Uli village .
It was also confirmed from an undisclosed source that, three persons who sustained injuries are currently on admission at a hospital in Ribah.
The source said, relations are still receiving sympathizers while some people who came from Zuru for farming activities have since left due to the fear of the unknown.
He also confirmed to this medium that at around 4:00pm seven trucks full of armed military officers have been deployed to the affected areas and were received by the district head of the area.
He noted that with the presence of security personnel residents have now developed confidence that normalcy will be restored.
