The Chairman of the Publicity Committee of the All Progressive Congress in
Ibrahim Muhammad Danmadamin Birnin Magaji has declared that, APC has resolved to drag the Inspector General of Police and INEC to court over electoral malpractices and voter intimidation which characterized the conduct of the Bakura bye election.
Danmadami who declared this during a press conference in Gusau on Thursday said, APC had initially joined the race because of its conviction that the election would be conducted in line with the electoral guidelines especially as it affects INEC and security agencies.
He said the entire process started very smoothly as all parties and stakeholders involved are carried along until at a time when INEC took the path of compromise and become an offshoot of the state government.
Danmadami noted further that, during the conduct of the December 5th election, there were a large scale of violence in almost all the 114 poling units and 9 voting points across the local government in order to instill fear in to the mind of innocent voters.
Danmadami alleged that, some security agencies were evidently used for voter intimidation, vote buying and ballot box snatching.
He said INEC itself had through its national commissioner Festus Okoye Esq admitted to the submission of the APC through its Press Release of Sunday 6th December 2020.
He expressed concern that, APC has written several letters to the INEC expecting it to address the issue before going in to the supplementary election but to their surprise INEC went ahead with the election without addressing the anomalies observed.
He alleged that, though the result of over 30 poling units/voting points in Rini, Birnin Tudu, Bakura and Yargeda wards were cancelled during the collation exercise by INEC it however unilaterally and single-handedly upturned its earlier verdict and come out with what could best be described as “random selection” of 14 poling units where it conducted its supplementary election
