A non governmental Organization Advocacy Nigeria Zamfara State Chapter, has organized One-day knowledge update interactive meeting on Maternal Health Accountability for members of the media and Civil Society Organizations in Gusau on Tuesday.
The theme of the interactive meeting is “Role of media practioners and CSOs in promoting maternal health especially during COVID 19 pandamic”.
Speaking during the event Zamfara State Coordinator of Advocacy Nigeria Rabiu Ahmad Sambo said, the essence of the interactive meeting is to conduct assessment on issues around access to health care facilities among pregnant women and children during this period of Covid-19 pandemic as well as availability and efficiency of services provided to the people especially women and children.
He noted that, with the Covid-19 pandemic human resource for health and indeed the health facilities have been over empowered and that, the challenge of the pandemic should not be allow to fall on the maternal mortality reduction campaign hence women and children are likely to be put at a disadvantaged position.
Mr Sambo noted further that, Advocacy Nigeria considered the meeting imperative and timely in order to avail the people of the media with the happenings around maternal health and strengthen the existing synergy between them and members of the Civil Society.
He commended the media and members of the Civil Society Organizations for the Union and urged them to continue to work as a network so that appropriate information can be communicated to both the government and governed adding that, with Advocacy Nigeria’s effort to continue to strengthening the marriage between the two actors the story of maternal mortality death in Zamfara is changing.
Earlier one of the resource persons at the interactive meeting Dr. Ahmad Lawal Gusau implored members of the media to continue to exhibit high sense of professionalism by using their respective platforms to set the agenda for the government especially on issues related to maternal health in the state.
The interactive session which took place at the UBE teacher training center Gusau was well attended by members of the media from various organizations as well as Civil Society actors.
