EFCC DIRECTORS TO GIVE 5 YEARS ACCOUNT TO JUSTICE AYO SALAMI PANEL

Some directors of the Economic and Financial (EFCC) Crimes Commission and other senior management staff on Thursday appeared before the Justice Ayo Salami panel investigating allegations of corruption against the suspended chairman of the commission, Ibrahim Magu. Among those who appeared before the panel was the secretary of the EFCC, Olanipekun Olukoyede.

Sources told Daily Trust that they were grilled for more than 12 hours. They were invited to give insights into some of the allegations against Magu. All heads of departments of the commission were said to have been asked to go and compile detailed reports about their activities from 2015 when Magu was appointed, to date

A source said Magu also appeared before the panel again on Thursday, but was excused when the director of operations, Mohammed Umar, was called to testify

The source said the panel demanded that every head of department of the EFCC sign every single page of the report he would present. Those in Asset Forfeiture and Procurement and Finance were said to have been ordered to provide receipts, serial numbers of all assets recovered and tender records.

From the holistic approach of the panel, it appears that their mandate includes suggesting to President Muhammadu Buhari ways of a complete overhaul of the anti- corruption body because the senior EFCC officials were also asked to give detailed human resource report of the agency in addition to identifying all operatives who report directly to the suspended chairman who are otherwise referred to as ‘Magu boys,”’ another source said. It was gathered that the current Ondo State Police Commissioner who once served in the EFCC also testified before the committee yesterday.

Former Governor of Zamfara state and Senator representing Zamfara West, Hon. Dr. Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar (Shattiman Zamfara) has secured (13) trucks of Maize containing (3900) bags for distribution to his immediate community of Talatar Mafara.

The distribution is to be handled by the (11) man committee headed by Malam Hamza Abubakar.

A total of 68 communities consisting of 21,075 households will benefit with a total of 3900 bags of Maize.

According the chairman, the beneficiaries cut across religious devices as instructed by the donor Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar.

According to the committee Chairman, former Governor Yari has considered the social condition of the people emanating from the removal of fuel subsidy by the current administration.

He assured that, the committee will be just and fair in the discharge of their duties.

He called on people to give them maximum support and cooperation in the discharged of their duty in order to achieve the desire success.

(31) PEOPLE DIES, (274) SUSTAIN INJURIES IN ADAMAWA ROAD CRASHES.

The Federal Road Safety Corp Adamawa state command has revealed that a total of (31) people died as a result of various road crashes within the state.

The statistics also showed that, a total of (274) people also sustained various degree of injuries as a result of the road crashes.

The Adamawa sector command also recorded (126) various road crashes involving (548) passengers within the period under review.

The statistics covered a period of January to July 2023.

The sector commandant of the state, Mr. Yelwa Dio when he interacted with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He attributed the road crashes to over-loading, over speeding and making telephone calls while driving.
