Governor Bello Matawalle said his administration is working harder to bring a lasting peace in Zamfara through genuine reconciliation with armed bandits
The Governor who stated this while receiving three repentant bandits who laid their arms and accepted peace insisted that his government is making effort to ensure total disarmament of those bandits who are willing to reunite with the people.
The three repentant bandits who were operating along Bakura forest said they have decided to lay down their arms and accepted the peace effort of the government in the overall interests of making Zamfara state a peaceful environment
According to the statement by the Director General Press Affairs to the Governor Malam Yusuf Idris said Governor Matawalle insisted that only dialogue can resolve the lingering security challenges bedeviling the state.
Matawalle further said no war or crises has ever ends through the use of force noting that genuine dialogue will save the state a lot of cost.
He also appealed to the people of the state to assist his government in sustaining the relative peace so far achieved and also support the ongoing fight against banditry and other criminalities in the state.
He further commended the effort of the security agencies for conducting themselves professionally and assured them of his continued support and cooperation at all times.
Matawalle who urged people of the state to ensure justice and fairness to all described security management as a collective responsibility of all the citizens of the state.
He further said since proliferation of small and light weapons is the major leading factor which heightens banditry and armed bandits’ activity his administration has accorded strong priority to the issue of disarmament so that more weapons can be collected in the hands of the bandits.
On his own part, Zamfara State Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs Abubakar Muhammad Dauran said the bandits have opted to surrender their arms and embrace peace following the tireless effort of the Matawalle’s government and persistent calls for them to accept peace.
