Suspected armed bandits armed with deadly weapons invaded Government Day Secondary School Kaya town in Maradun local government area of Zamfara State and kidnapped an unspecified number of students and teachers.
The Vice Principal of the school Malam Zayyanu Take Tsaba is among those abducted by the bandits according to a source.
Kaya is a town few kilometers to Maradun the country home of Zamfara Governor Bello Matawalle.
A source who was a former councilor who spoke to this medium said, four of his children, all of them females, are part of the students abducted by the bandits during the operation.
He told this medium that they came to the school around 11:00am and cordoned the entire school before they started shooting sporadically.
Two students were wounded by the gunshots, according to the source, while some of the students who were lucky escaped in to the farmlands with several wounds.
As at the time of filing this report, a census of the number of students and teachers abducted in the school is ongoing even as everyone desert the school premises.
He testified that the number of those abducted is large, since the school has a population of about 300 pupils.
The attack came the same hour when Governor Bello Matawalle alongside members of his government are holding special prayer session to seek for the divine intervention on the lingering security situation facing the state.
Zamfara Police Spokesperson SP Shehu could not be reached for confirmation.
