HEAVY DOWNPOUR KILLS ONE, DESTROY HUNDREDS OF STRUCTURES IN ZAMFARA

Heavy downpour which lasted for several hours has caused a disastrous flooding which led to the destruction of housing and business structures worth hundreds of millions of naira in Gummi local Government area of Zamfara State.



The flooding according some sources has caused the death of one person whose building collapse on him last night and his funeral prayers was conducted this morning.


Areas heavily affected by the flooding in Gummi include Shiyar Kabobi, part of Kofar Lugui, Bare Bari and Shiyar Dada and it was learnt that, hundreds of households who were affected by the disaster were forced to taking refuge in some of the public primary schools near their areas.


The disaster led to the building collapse, and in some places houses were totally drstroyed while dozens of perimeter fence of many houses have partially or totally collapsed.

One of the source Nafiu Shehu who spoke with the thunder blowers online medium said the case of flooding in Gummi is not due to the absence of drainages or water ways but the excess of downpour which become out of control.


“You know most of the buildings are made up mud structures and the nature of the heavy rain become unresistable” Nafiu added.

He said public places such as Malama Habbi Model Primary school have been fully occupied by the victims of the flooding even as many victims took refuge in the existing housing structures of their relations and love ones.


He noted further that, untill government is able to come to the aid of the people of Gummi the economic hardship caused by the flooding will be unresistable.

The Local Government Sole Administrator of Gummi could not be reached for comment even as the telephone lines of State Commissioner for Environment Dr. Nurudeen Isah, Special Advisers to the Governor either on Humanitarian Affairs or State Emergency Management Agency failed to connect.

SEN. YARI DONATES (13) TRUCKS OF MAIZE TO PEOPLE OF TALATAR MAFARA

Former Governor of Zamfara state and Senator representing Zamfara West, Hon. Dr. Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar (Shattiman Zamfara) has secured (13) trucks of Maize containing (3900) bags for distribution to his immediate community of Talatar Mafara.

The distribution is to be handled by the (11) man committee headed by Malam Hamza Abubakar.

A total of 68 communities consisting of 21,075 households will benefit with a total of 3900 bags of Maize.

According the chairman, the beneficiaries cut across religious devices as instructed by the donor Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar.

According to the committee Chairman, former Governor Yari has considered the social condition of the people emanating from the removal of fuel subsidy by the current administration.

He assured that, the committee will be just and fair in the discharge of their duties.

He called on people to give them maximum support and cooperation in the discharged of their duty in order to achieve the desire success.

(31) PEOPLE DIES, (274) SUSTAIN INJURIES IN ADAMAWA ROAD CRASHES.

The Federal Road Safety Corp Adamawa state command has revealed that a total of (31) people died as a result of various road crashes within the state.

The statistics also showed that, a total of (274) people also sustained various degree of injuries as a result of the road crashes.

The Adamawa sector command also recorded (126) various road crashes involving (548) passengers within the period under review.

The statistics covered a period of January to July 2023.

The sector commandant of the state, Mr. Yelwa Dio when he interacted with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He attributed the road crashes to over-loading, over speeding and making telephone calls while driving.
