It appears that, the opposition candidates in Zamfara are losing their temper with the manners in which the APC led by Governor Bello Matawalle is moving its political train.

It all started when few weeks back, the Secretary of People’s Democratic Party in Kaura Namoda defected to join forces with Matawalle in the APC. That movement to APC alone has attracted mixed reactions from among political Observers, who first asserted that it was simply a “political mockery”.

In that particular movement alone, the young agile politician from Kaura Namoda local government defected with dozens of other PDP local executives who believed the time has come for them to dump the PDP and join forces with Matawalle in the APC.

Few weeks again, same politician mobilized more PDP executives from Bakura and Kaura Namoda local governments to defect again, making the defection mantra in Zamfara much more prominent and realistic.

Last week, a whole PDP candidate for the post of state assembly in one of the constituencies in Talatar Mafara dumped his ambition and joined the APC. That development alone caused serious confusion within the PDP as people believed the Governor is applying a more realistic political experience to win the heart of the opposition political allies.

Within the same week, more than (1000) supporters from the PDP assembled at the state Government House Chambers to declare their political solidarity to the APC and indeed Governor Bello Matawalle.

Shifting ground to the ugly development within the PDP, the most disastrous of the political Tsunami which occurred in Zamfara is the mass movement of state Executive Council members of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) to the APC.

The Organizing Secretary of the party and his Deputy, the state party Treasurer, Woman leader and rest happily dumped their former party for the APC. They moved together with the Women leaders from ten local government areas and Chairmen of the NNPP from ten local governments also.

This development is becoming a serious political catastrophe that is convincingly indicating that Matawalle is championing a political cause which is widely accepted by the political opponents.

WHY WE LEFT NNPP TO JOIN GOVERNOR MATAWALLE

The former Organizing Secretary of NNPP Hon. Babangida Damba insisted that they are impressed with the manner in which Governor Matawalle is unifying all the varying political forces to create political stability in the state.

He also declared during one of the TV Show programs on Saturday that, “it was after their encounter with the Governor through an ideological interface they begin to realize that the Governor has clearer vision of transforming Zamfara noting that, it was due to the divisive nature o f the political development after the 2019 that attempted to derail the Governor from moving the direction the people desired.

He also alleged that their former party the NNPP is lacking in terms of desired leadership which will ginger them to face the ruling party in the state, a circumstance which he said offered them no option than to move to the APC and join forces with Governor Bello Matawalle.

WHY IS PDP LOSING GROUND IN ZAMFARA POLITICS

Sani Bala a member of the PDP from Tsafe told this medium on phone that, the biggest problem of the PDP in Zamfara is that it has no active leadership that is capable of providing a sense of political direction for the party to triumph.

He alleged that, the gubernatorial candidate of the party despite lacking in political experience, he has surrounded himself with old-time politicians who do not have the political capacity of planning for winning election.

“The extent of the confusion in the PDP has reached its echelon that the whole decision of what to do to win election allegedly lies with two persons and any inputs not from these two politicians it is popularly considered “dead on arrival” and funny enough, the gubernatorial candidate has refused to make a review of the major decision he was influenced to take and their consequential effects on his political chances”.

He added that “the entire party structure has relocated to Abuja and the party secretariat in Gusau had been under lock and key and not many of our supporters believed the party is serious in facing a ruling party which is powerfully led by Governor Matawalle”.

APC IS GEARING TOWARD WINNING THE 2023 ELECTION WITH RELATIVE EASE

Observers of the political development in Zamfara are of the strongest conviction that Governor Matawalle is applying the most appropriate wisdom and political experience to manage the opposition, especially that things are getting clearer within the APC itself as a party.

The reconciliation of the various factions of the APC and bringing together the leadership of former Governor Yari and that of Marafa under his political control as the wisest decision any politician of Matawalle’s experience can take.

Ahead of the 2023 Election many anticipated that the Governor will face a top time battling with various political camps within the APC. Surprisingly, however, Governor Matawalle has created political stability within the APC that he is now eying for the opposition and also winning their heart simultaneously.

For many people, his plan of reconciliation is earning him more and better chances of re-emerging again as the substantive Governor of Zamfara after the 2023 election; hence the major opposition parties including PDP and NNPP are now falling under his “political trap” and that their followers are beginning to lose hope that nothing serious may likely come out of the PDP/NNPP movement in the 2023 election.

As at now, candidates are expected to defect to the ruling APC as the Governor open his APC political train for more to be accommodated.
