The distribution of sensitive and non-sensitive materials for the Bakura December 5th bye election was conducted amidst tight security as INEC officials, political party representatives as well as election observers conducted themselves in an orderly manner.
Election materials started moving out of the INEC offices in Bakura around 3:00pm in company of tight security agencies as armed police men from CTU, operatives of the Nigerian army, DSS and Civil Defense Corp officials were attached to escorts the vehicles carrying election materials out of the INEC premises.
Unlike on Thursday when entering Bakura was like going to the hell, today (Friday) the road leading to Bakura town from the main junction was free of security check points as residents of the town went about their daily activities as if election is not going to hold on tomorrow (Saturday).
INEC has scheduled the bye election for the state assembly constituency for Saturday the 5th of December 2020 following the death of the member elected in the 2019 election Alh Tukur Jekada Bakura early this year.
The campaign rallies conducted by the two major political parties turns out to be bloody as scores of death have been recorded and cases of destruction of public properties have been recorded.
On Thursday alone the AIG in charge of Zone 10 announced the suspension of campaign rallies by all political parties in Bakura as a result of killing of two people within 24 hours and unwanted vandalization of public properties by supporters of the two major political parties.
The State Governor had on Thursday enforced a 24 hours curfew in Bakura and Talatar Mafara with the sole aim of ensuring restriction of unnecessary movement amongst people as part of strategies of ensuring peace before, during and after the conduct of the election.
